How to End Of Poverty in our lifetime?

This is the website of the Foundation 'The End Of Poverty'  (=a foundation purely for promotion of a holistic sustainable development concept) which is run by a Dutch group of entrepreneurs who aim to contribute to the global end of poverty. This movement is inspired by the book 'The End Of Poverty' by Jeffrey Sachs and seeks to find as much as possible people to join in this effort. Therefore we run a Book Tree to reach as much people as possible. We try to introduce the integrated development approach to existing Development Foundations who have their own target area and target group. Furthermore we try to accumulate and to publish all the practical knowledge acquired during execution of development projects.

The Book

A landmark exploration of the roots of economic prosperity and the path out of extreme poverty for the world's poorest citizens. Learn why, over the last two hundred years, wealth has diverged across the planet and why the poorest nations have so far been unable to improve their lot. The feasibility as well as the way to implement and finance the end of poverty are described in a superb way.

The author

Jeffrey Sachs is a firm believer that Poverty can be ended in our lifetime, his career seems one big preparation for this task.
The Earth Institute

His current occupation is Director at the Earth Institute. The Earth Institute is motivated by the belief that science and technological tools already exist, and could be expanded, to greatly improve conditions for the world's poor while preserving the natural systems that support life on Earth.

Beside the bottom up approach of the millenium village project he is also actively involved in studies for top-down approaches on request of national governments (for example the water, electricity, primary education & primary healthcare in Rural India).

The Earth Institute: Millenium Villages Program

Earth Institute scientists and development experts in agriculture, nutrition and health, economics, energy, water, environment and information technology will work with local communities and governments to apply a proven, integrated package of interventions to help villages get out of extreme poverty

What makes this project unique is that they have scientists watching the process extremely closely so that they can develop a methodology or guide that can be used in villages throughout the developing world to address specific needs and challenges and also create the necessary knowledge and expertise for village to village transfer of the concept for scaling up to national level implementation
