ECONOMIC DEVELOPMENT
From End Of Poverty
ECONOMIC DEVELOPMENT
Third phase of intervention proposed is Economic Development. Whatever efforts one could make in enhancing the human development indicators they have to be linked with income generation for attaining sustainability. Economic development and poverty reduction are major policy goals for the poorer communities. While sustainable poverty reduction is inherently linked to local economic growth, it is also connected to the creation of responsive and accountable public institutions that bring marginalised populations into the governance process. Hence, this phase aims at improving the economic status of the target families by identifying the permanent and sustainable income sources. Working children could be withdrawn from work after motivating the parents but in order to sustain it and to ensure that the parents are not forced to send their children back to work, the livelihood promotion opportunities have to be enhanced among the target families and the income levels have to be upgraded. With this focus, the project aims at making a provision for these people’s organisations to take up viable income generation schemes continuously.
After building a good community organisation, the discussion takes place how to improve the economic status of the target families and community in general. The common solution derived in these regions is the optimum utilisation of land, water and human resources. Land-based activities to improve the production and to increase the profit and wok units to upgrade the skills and to market the products are the best solutions in the regions selected for operation by ASSIST. Next is to support People’s Organisations to take up Economic Development activities in relation to the livelihood promotion such as matching grants to MACTS, initiating household income generative units and simultaneously installing irrigation wells and other land development activities to ensure sustainable farming. As part of the planning process the villagers will identify some potential sources and the interventions could be as follows:
