1. Village Study:

First and foremost activity taken up by ASSIST in entering into the new area of operation is conducting a detailed baseline survey to identify the eligible communities and families deserving our intervention. These communities are not selected based not only on the social conditions but also considering the economic and cultural factors and infrastructure facilities. Once these communities are identified PRA / PLA techniques are used with the majority of the community involved in it. This helps the people to quickly assess the prevailing situation and also leads to serious discussions on the reasons for such a situation. The discussions get them to identify the solution which is more appropriate and manageable by them. It also ensures the people’s participation in deciding on the activities and their role in executing the plans. The leaders become clearer on the plans as well as ensure their role in the monitoring and evaluating the project activities. A repeat of the baseline survey annually helps to measure the results of the development process initiated in these communities and to draw up an annual action plan for the specific community based on the detailed analysis of the data.
